plowunited.net – YouTube announced it will shut down its Trending Page on July 21, nearly 10 years after launching it in 2015. The Trending Page helped users discover the most popular videos at a glance. However, over the past five years, visits to this page have dropped sharply. YouTube attributes this decline to changing viewer habits. Users now find trending videos through various sections like recommendations, search suggestions, Shorts, comments, and Communities. These diverse discovery paths have reduced the need for a centralized Trending Page.

The Trending Page also featured a “Trending Now” list, which will be discontinued alongside the page itself. YouTube’s decision reflects the evolving ways audiences engage with content on the platform. The company aims to better align its features with how viewers currently explore popular videos. Creators have used the Trending Page to promote their videos and stay updated on popular content. YouTube noted that the Inspiration tab in YouTube Studio will continue offering personalized content ideas for creators.
In addition to user trends, YouTube recently updated its monetization policies. Starting July 15, the platform will clamp down on mass-produced, repetitive, and inauthentic videos. This move intends to improve content quality and fairness in monetization. The Trending Page closure complements these broader efforts to enhance user experience and promote authentic content.
Future of Discovering Popular Videos on YouTube
To replace the Trending Page, YouTube will direct viewers to YouTube Charts for discovering popular videos by category. Currently, YouTube Charts focuses mainly on music, featuring Trending Music Videos, Weekly Top Podcast Shows, and Trending Movie Trailers. YouTube plans to expand Charts to include more content categories in the future.
For gaming fans, YouTube will continue featuring trending gaming videos on the Gaming Explore page. Additionally, the platform will rely on personalized recommendations to show a broader range of popular content tailored to individual preferences. This approach aims to help users find videos relevant to their tastes, rather than a one-size-fits-all trending list.
Users can also explore trending videos through the Explore Page, their subscriptions feed, or specific creators’ channels. These options provide both personalized and non-personalized ways to find fresh content. This shift supports YouTube’s goal of making video discovery more dynamic and customized.
